The Keck School of Medicine of USC will offer INTD 500: Ethics and Accountability in Biomedical Research. This course satisfies the NIH Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training requirements. The course is open to all graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, and staff who are conducting research. All PIBBS doctoral students are required to pass INTD 500 prior to advancing to candidacy. Master's students, postdoctoral fellows, and others auditing will receive a certificate of completion of the course.
Summer 2024 | Registration Deadline: MAY 15, 2024 The course will be offered in a one-week format, meeting for five (5) consecutive days, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during the week of June 3-7, 2024 (Section# 40681D; 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Location: MCA 249). Fall 2024 | Registration Deadline: August 1, 2024 The course will be repeated during the Fall semester and will be offered once a week over five (5) consecutive weeks. The course will tentatively meet every Monday from September 9 - October 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Location: TBA. The Responsible Conduct of Research course includes lecture, video, and discussion topics focused on scientific integrity, misconduct and fraud in science, data acquisition and management, collaborative research, responsible authorship, conflicts of interest, innovation advancement and patents, animal welfare, human subjects, mentor/mentee responsibilities and professionalism in scientific relationships. Dr. Carol Lin, Associate Professor of Translational Genomics, is the course director. Faculty members from the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Integrative Anatomical Sciences, Microbiology, Pathology, Population and Public Health Sciences, Physiology and Neuroscience, and others will serve as discussion leaders. This course requires pre-registration, by completing the Pre-Registration Request Form: https://forms.gle/bR6sHnrgERRhux7z6 Students requiring d-clearance will be contacted once d-clearance has been granted and will need to complete web registration. Students officially registering will be charged tuition and will receive unit credit. Auditors include: Postdoctoral fellow, junior faculty, staff and Master's students. No tuition is charged and a certificate will be issued after completion of the course.
