The mission of the USC Norris Cancer Survivorship Advisory Council is to facilitate the journey from diagnosis to survivorship for cancer patients and their caregivers through advocacy, education and support for the advancement of cancer research.

 

Our members include recently diagnosed cancer patients, longtime survivors, and family members who have cared for loved ones with cancer. Our common ground is the desire to use our experiences to make a positive difference in the lives of others facing cancer and to improve patient care and the treatment of cancer for future generations.

 

As council members, we advise clinicians and researchers at the Keck School of Medicine at USC on issues bearing on the quality of patient care and actively support clinical trials and other research efforts at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and in the surrounding community. We give a face to cancer survivorship as we serve on committees that direct research, treatment, and education decisions throughout the cancer center and partner with dedicated USC healthcare professionals to identify and address areas where our unique patient perspective is most needed.

 

The council is also a project-driven group that develops programs originating from within our council membership. Current projects include the Bereavement Letter Project, the Financial Toxicity Project, and the Puzzle Table, all of which were initiated by council members with the goal of improving the patient and family experience.

 

We meet in the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at noon on the second Wednesday of every month, with the exceptions of August and December. Cancer patients, survivors, and the loved ones of cancer patients are invited to join us. Please contact us for further information.
