The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Funding Opportunity Announcement

NCCC NCI-supported Research Core Voucher Program

Purpose:

The Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCCC) has six NCI-supported research cores providing state-of-the-art services and access to innovative and cutting-edge equipment. To promote the use of these core services and instrumentation by cancer center members, the NCCC has introduced the CCSG Research Core Voucher Program.

Faculty Eligibility:

All USC NCCC full members are eligible to participate in the Core Voucher Program, Priority will be given to full member applicants who are new to the use of an NCCC core facility or new to an instrument/service within an NCCC core facility (based on confirmation by the Core Director or Core Manager). In addition, those who plan to include core pilot data in an NCI or other NIH grant submission which will include funding for further core services, will also be given priority for this funding. Associate member applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Project of Particular Interest:

Supporting the use of liquid biopsies in breast cancer research is of particular interest to NCCC leadership due to a philanthropic gift provided to NCCC. Projects designed to generate pilot data for grant applications using the services of the Liquid Biopsy Core will be prioritized for core voucher support. It is particularly encouraged for basic science researchers interested in using liquid biopsies as part of their research, especially in the area of breast cancer, to collaborate with a clinical PI and apply jointly for core vouchers to support their work.

Core Eligibility:

Vouchers must be used for services at one or more of the following six NCCC NCI-supported cores:

Translational Pathology Core
  Sue Ellen Martin, MD   sue.martin@med.usc.edu

Director:   John Carpten, PhD   carpten@usc.edu
Co-Director:   David Craig, PhD   davidwcr@usc.edu

Directors:   W. Martin Kast, PhD (Immune Monitoring)   martin.kast@med.usc.edu
Rong Lu, PhD (Flow Cytometry)   rong.lu@med.usc.edu

Director:   Amir Goldkorn, MD   agoldkor@med.usc.edu

Director:   Ming Li, PhD   mli69131@usc.edu
Co-Director:   David Birtwell, MSE   david.birtwell@med.usc.edu

Director:   Myles Cockburn, PhD   mylesc@med.usc.edu

Application Process:

Submit a maximum one page research proposal which briefly describes the goal of the project, the nature of the research and specific experiments to be conducted, along with justification for the funds requested (which core(s) will be used, what services are required, hours of access required, technical support, cost per unit for each, if known). If the goal of the project is to obtain pilot data to be used for a peer-reviewed (or other) funding opportunity, specify the funding agency (priority will be given to those using core services to obtain pilot data for NCI grant applications), type of grant (P, U, R01, K award, etc.), and grant application due date.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.
